CND Launches New Educational Projects for Ghana and Togo

The educational programs of the Center for Public Diplomacy in African countries engage participants of various ages and levels of training. Recently, in Togo—where a CND representative office has only just opened—Russian language classes were held for the youngest learners. Meanwhile, in Ghana, where the Center has already implemented many successful projects at the partner Russian House and partner educational institutions, a new stage of the NSTU engineering class program has begun.
In the Togolese Republic, young students of the SARES International Bilingual School had their first introduction to the Russian language and culture. Staff members of the Center for Public Diplomacy conducted an interactive lesson for children aged 2–6, introducing them—through play—to iconic Russian symbols and the most important words.
The children showed particular interest in a story about wild animals living in Russian forests and then, with the help of adults, made bright bear and fox masks for themselves.
CND specialists note that the children’s curiosity quickly overcame their shyness, and by the end of the lesson they were completing all tasks with enthusiasm and great enjoyment. As a reward, the Russian guests received warm hugs and a cheerful “Spasibo!” in Russian.
The children’s genuine interest in Russian culture was also supported by the school’s administration—CND staff received an invitation to conduct more classes for the students. Next time, the children will be able to learn cheerful and heartfelt Russian songs.
At the same time in Ghana, the Center for Public Diplomacy’s partner Russian House launched a programming course as part of the Engineering Class of Novosibirsk State Technical University (NSTU) in the Volta Region.
The Engineering Class is a joint project of CND and NSTU, implemented at the Anfoeta Technical Institute. For the region, this educational initiative is the first of its kind. Its goal is to introduce talented young Ghanaians to modern information technologies and the Russian system of technical education in order to train in-demand specialists for the republic in the future.
Previously, students of the Engineering Class had already mastered the basics of the Russian language. Now they will study the fundamentals of algorithms and programming logic, as well as take part in practical software development classes. This solid foundation will enable them to continue studying engineering disciplines, participate in specialized educational programs and competitions. The most motivated and capable students will also have the opportunity to apply for further education at Russian technical universities.
