For the First Time in 2026, Russian Cosmonauts Conduct a Spacewalk from the ISS: Over 5 Hours of Work Outside the Station

The state corporation Roscosmos is broadcasting the spacewalk live.

According to the agency, the cosmonauts will spend more than five hours in open space. During this time, they are expected to complete a number of important tasks related to the scientific program of the International Space Station. The specific list of tasks has not been disclosed, but such spacewalks traditionally include installing equipment, checking station systems, and conducting experiments.

Earlier, the Progress MS-34 cargo spacecraft docked with the Russian segment of the ISS, approaching the Zvezda module. The spacecraft delivered essential supplies, fuel, and equipment to ensure the continued operation of the orbital laboratory.

A spacewalk is one of the most complex and responsible activities in the ISS flight program. Cosmonauts work in specialized Orlan spacesuits that protect them from pressure fluctuations, extreme temperatures, and micrometeoroids. Each such operation requires thorough preparation and coordination between the crew and Mission Control on Earth.

The Russian segment of the ISS remains a key element of the international space program, enabling scientific research in microgravity conditions.
