Local residents are filming unusual footage where the summer landscape turned into winter in a matter of minutes.
The Main Directorate of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations for the Moscow Region has issued an urgent storm warning. The agency reports that heavy rain, thunderstorms and very strong winds are expected in the near future, with gusts in some places reaching 20–25 m/s.
Hail fell in the south of the Moscow region, where the ground was covered with a layer of ice in a short time, making roads slippery and some areas look like winter.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations recommends that drivers exercise particular caution on the roads, and that residents, if possible, limit their time outdoors during thunderstorms and strong winds.
Meteorologists explain the sudden deterioration in weather conditions by the arrival of a cold front that brought unstable atmospheric conditions and intense precipitation. Air temperature during the hail locally dropped by 5–7 degrees.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations urges residents of the region to monitor weather updates, not to park vehicles under trees and not to stay close to power lines during a thunderstorm.
