Oman is a country that has always chosen its own distinctive path in the region. While its neighbors actively built skyscrapers, vast museums, and high-profile art fairs, Oman developed more reservedly, preserving traditions and maintaining a particular neutrality. This has also been reflected in its art: it does not copy Western or neighboring models but grows organically—from maritime culture, the desert, Islamic traditions, and Bedouin heritage.
The exhibition presents in Russia for the first time the key “pioneers”—artists who laid the foundation of the national school in the mid-20th century. The display includes painting, graphic art, installations, and video. The works reflect a unique Omani combination: calligraphy and abstraction, traditional crafts and contemporary media, sea and desert.
The exhibition is small but highly atmospheric. It offers insight into how, in the 21st century, a distinct artistic voice is emerging in quiet yet confident Oman.
