The Blessing of Aphrodite at the Hermitage. How Ancient Brides Prepared for Marriage

The exhibition is dedicated to one of the most poetic rituals of antiquity — the preparation of a bride for marriage. It features marble sculptures of Aphrodite and Venus, ceramics with wedding scenes, exquisite jewelry, fragrances, and an atmosphere of purification and new life. The central exhibit is the sculptural group “Aphrodite and Eros” from the collection of the Marquis Campana.

The Hermitage has even added an aromatic accent to the display — a light scent of violet and ancient incense — allowing visitors to immerse themselves more deeply in the atmosphere. This is not just an archaeological exhibition, but an attempt to show how, two and a half thousand years ago, people experienced one of the most important moments of life.
